When was the last time you allowed yourself to stop ‘doing’ and take time to sit quietly and reflect on what was going well in life and celebrate this with the people who are important to you?
Life this week has been pretty manic at Superhero H.Q. we’ve been preparing to launch ‘Pants on the Outside’ to the world and meet the people who will work with us to help us make it a success. We’ve also been running our businesses (The Clear Thinking Partnership & Newmill Media) and one of us, namely the Magnificent Chameleon, has been treading the boards every night in Calendar Girls. We are all without a doubt, busy, busy, busy!
Busy is great, busy gives you a hit of adrenaline and serotonin that fires you up and keeps you running at 100%, but we are also more than aware that being busy all of the time isn’t sustainable. At Superhero H.Q. we are firm believers in slowing down to speed up and these are a few things that we believe work for us and you might want to follow our lead….
Take a power nap…
Taking off your superhero mask and cape and setting your alarm for a 15 minute cat nap in the afternoon can help to improve your memory, your cognitive function and also your mood. It powers you up for the rest of the day!
Listen to your favourite music….
Music affects the process of learning and thinking as it increases your concentration levels and improves memory. According to research, the silence between two musical notes triggers brain cells which are responsible for the development of sharp memory. Music has the power to help you feel more positive and motivated. Listening to quiet and soothing music while working helps you work faster and in a more efficient way. We’ve also found that listening to music whilst tackling a challenge can make it seem easier.
Laugh out loud….
At Superhero H.Q. there is nothing we love more than sharing a joke and as humour and laughter can strengthen your immune system, boost your energy, diminish pain, and protect you from the damaging effects of stress, we think that laughter is definitely the best medicine. Even better is the fact that it’s free, widely available and very easy to use. Ho Ho Ha Ha Ha!
Take a deep breath…
Deep breathing is also a simple but very effective method of relaxation and can reduce the stress hormones whizzing about inside. Find a quiet spot, take a number of deep breaths and relax your body further with each breath. That’s all there is to it.
Focus on success…..
When things are not quite working out to plan is so easy to getting trapped into focusing on what isn’t working and ignoring all of the good stuff that is going on around you. By taking a moment to focus on the positive and spot all of the things that are going right (however small they might seem) this helps to shift you focus and your emphasis away from what isn’t working and onto what is and the possibilities that they hold. It has a calming and reinvigorating effect!
At Superhero H.Q. we truly believe that ‘you get what you focus on’ so by looking forward to all of the good things that are happening we believe that we are setting ourselves up for certain success.
